Kaibo (Kurt) Guo is a Photography/Humanistic Studies major from Beijing, China.
“Over the past years, I have focused my research and studio practice on the topic of massive surveillance and social control. As technology has advanced, the antiquated theories of Jeremy Bentham and Michel Foucault no longer apply to the current reality. Unlike their Eurocentric perspective, my work is global. Questions regarding the definition of privacy, identity and autonomy arise through my installation composed with readymade objects, in addition to video projection and performance. Combining literary utopian ideas, multi-culture traditional art and contemporary social discourses, I urge the audience to reconsider the world they live in.
I’m moving to Greenpoint, Brooklyn in May, after graduation to continue my research and studio practice.”
